Seduction in control, S/S 2012, is an investigation of gender separation through social and economic status. The collection was designed, developed and constructed throughout Tegan Joy's third year as a BFA student, majoring in Fashion Design, at Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design.
The collection explores ideas of hierarchy within the workplace as well as the ever present power of seduction women have through fashion. Caroline Cox, Fashion theorist, and her book Seduction; a Celebration of Sensual Style became a strong influence to the collection as she focuses on gender specific styles of clothing through the most influential ages of fashion.
The colour palette used is referencing the sombre and responsible colours of men’s clothing suggested by Cox’s research of typical male attire. The light soft colours create a feeling of ease and relaxation however they also reference the strength of male dominance with in the workplace.
The mirrored panels are to represent the seductive allure of women's fashion, along with the combination of sheer fabrics and visible undergarments in order to suggest a night of passion.
Incorporating both masculine and feminine aesthetics I have utilised the smooth texture of delicate fabrics, such as silk dupion and silk chiffon, in the form of lingerie and floating skirts, as well as linen in order to create hard edges depicting the typically male suite and tie attire.
